EDIT #1:  I've made a few minor changes:  added a thick light-color outline to certain parts of her hair and boots/skin so that it stands out further.  Second, I've changed her eyes so she's now looking up.

Artist's Note:  Happy Halloween (round two), ghouls 'n fools!  So I attempted to actually do a page of comic, but instead I ended up doing smexy content as a birthday present to myself, and as a second (and final) contribution to Halloween this year.  Camarra, so eager to learn new things and new customs, was more than happy to dress up for Halloween... even if "sexy" doesn't really make sense for a holiday all about fear.  Unless it's fear of not looking sexy or something.  Does someone want to explain why people dress sexy for Halloween to Camarra?  Because I can't.

The hardest part about putting this together was to find the right color combination for both the background and outfit so that it complemented Camarra's skin tone, which in full disclosure is something I need more practice working with.  I think having very sharp shading contrasts on Camarra helps with this, but I don't know if I found what I was hoping to find background coloring-wise while keeping a Halloween-y theme.  This took me about two weeks to do, the vast majority of my time spent using the paint bucket tool in MS Paint and Gimp on her outfit.  There's a good chance I'll come back around to fix this, because although I am very proud of it, I keep finding myself tinkering with it to make sure I'm using colors the right way to capture the eye.

Anyway, as is tradition, here is a bit more about Camarra, the lovable airhead and current star of our main cast of lovely ladies:

Full name:  Camarra Valenzuela.  Her first name has some personal history involved.  Growing up, my best friend's name was Cameron, so when the time came to build a best-friend character for another story I drew eons ago, I came up with "Camarro" in my friend's honor.  Camarro was male, had dread locks, and had a sort of "pirate-y" theme.  However, two years ago I opted to draw a female-only cast, and converted "Camarro" into "Camarra" and basically redesigned the entire character, right down to the personality.  So there you go.  Also, her last name is one of my favorite Hispanic last names, and yes, if Camarra were from our world, she would likely be Brazilian.

Age:  19 at the time of the comic.  Youngest out of everyone.

Height:  About 5'5."

Personality:  Hailing from the foreign country of Frostwald ("Hielvald" in her native Walden tongue), Camarra's most endearing quality is her warm, kind personality and her endless spring of optimism.  It doesn't matter who you are, where you're from, or who you used to be:  Camarra only sees the best in you, and will cheer you on through whatever obstacles you encounter.  Unfortunately, this comes with a major drawback:  Camarra has a bad tendency to trust people she shouldn't, and that sets her up to be deeply hurt.  She is also renowned for being oblivious to many social queues:  although she is quite smart, sometimes she just "doesn't get it."  However, she is far from being helpless, as her hopes and sunny outlook drive her to never give up on her goals:  once Camarra sets her mind to something, it's only a matter of time before she gets it done.  However, for all of her warmth and happiness, buried deep within Camarra's soul is something so dark, that it strikes a mortal horror within those who see it....what, exactly, is she hiding?  Does she even know that it's there?  Only time will tell...

Physical Features:  Camarra loves getting up and moving around, so she's in better shape than, say, Darramere.  She is extremely animated when she speaks.  She is arguably the most expressive of all my characters, as her openness makes her very easy to read.  Camarra is also "blessed" with certain attributes, as seen above, but she doesn't actually recognize herself as sexy because... well, let's just say there's a good chance she doesn't even know what "sexy" means.  Camarra's skin tone is my favorite feature, in large part because it's unique in this genre of anime-style art, but also because of her stunning yellow eyes that just seem to click with her dark skin.  Her hair was originally supposed to be jet black, but I went with a reddish brown instead.  Honestly, when I draw the other characters, sometimes I have to try to make them sexy (if that's the goal), but no matter how or where I draw Camarra, she comes out as sexy without me really trying.  She is hands-down my favorite character to draw.  For the record, if Darramere is bisexual, and if Aly is Lesbian, Camarra would be "oblivisexual."

Design Influences:  This one is harder to describe.  Someone once commented that Camarra is the kind of girl you'd want to meet in real life, and that's sort of what I was aiming for when I drew this incarnation.  Camarra, as noted, was initially male in a prototype design, and that version drew from Roranoa Zolo (One Piece), Piccolo (Dragon Ball Z), and Sanosuke Sagara (Rurouni Kenshin).  As you can tell now, Camarra looks absolutely nothing like any of those, although you can probably find echoes of Kenshin Himura's hair on her (I drew a lot of Kenshins growing up).  Camarra's primary influence in her current incarnation is from Iris Irene from a Korean Manwha called Ragnarok:  Into the Abyss in regards to facial expressiveness and design, especially in the eye and personality departments (if you Google her, it's an early version of Iris with a ponytail that I looked to).  One of the struggles, as I've blogged about previously, is finding characters that look like Camarra in published manga/anime, or anywhere for that matter, so I'm pretty much on my own when I go looking for inspiration for her.  That challenge is why she's my favorite character to draw, though.

And that's it!  I love all my OCs, but Camarra for some reason I'm attached to the most, probably because I picture her personality as the kind that I think anyone would want to be around.  Also because she's sexy and doesn't even know it. 

Usually I feel kind of sad when I finish and post a piece, because it means I have nothing to work on now.  But this time, I actually have a draft ready to be scanned.  It's a new entry into CIFR [B], the parallel comic that occasionally runs here.  I'm trying something completely different with this one:  less reading, more looking.  I hope you look forward to that and more of Camarra and friends soon!  Happy Halloween!
